About us

Rosalind House was built in 1832 and is a stones throw from the centre of Carlisle. We are close to leafy walks in Bitts and Rickerby Park. Historic Carlisle Cathedral and Carlisle Castle are a short walk away. Brunton Park, home of Carlisle United is just a little further down our street.

Our neighbourhood is a mixture of large residential town houses, some of which have now been converted into doctors, dentists & offices, whilst others kept residential. We are a short walk from the city restaurants and bars, but far enough not to be disturbed by them!

Rosalind House Bed & Breakfast is home to myself, Julie, my husband and my two daughters. We renovated and converted this gradeII listed townhouse into a B&B over the last few years and started to welcome guests in 2018. It is a continuous project as we seek to improve, develop and update to make our guests as happy as possible.

I have always been passionate about hospitality, completing an honours degree at the Scottish Hotel School, University of Strathclyde in my younger days. Opening Rosalind House, in my home City, has fulfilled a dream.

I love running and walking, when I can fit it in. We are blessed with so many beautiful places to explore within easy reach, Hadrian's Wall path is always a favourite for us. But also you just can't beat the spectacular views that The Cumbrian Way has to offer.

My other 'Happy Place' is the kitchen, where you will find me whipping up some home baked treats for guests or food being donated to 108Mealbank, a Church Community Project I am involved in.

"Great communication before stayed. Warm welcome from Julie on arrival. Lovely boutique chic decor in the room. Great bathroom with under floor heating and a rainforest shower, plenty of hot water. Honestly the best breakfast spread I've ever seen at a hotel/B&B. 3 min walk to the centre of Carlisle." Thomas, Sept 2021

"Julie was a fantastic host greeting us at the door and letting us know everything we needed. The room was a great size, very modern and had everything you could possibly need including a mini fridge. The room was very clean too with plenty of COVID procedures followed throughout the property. Would highly recommend staying here and hope to return in the future." Stewart, Aug 2021

"Super B&B for 2 nights. Made very welcome, great information and restaurant recommendations to help us. Went above and beyond to make sure my husband's gluten free needs were catered for (most amazing gf pancakes). Great location for the city and Hadrian’s Wall walk. Can’t recommend enough - we would definitely go back." Tracy, Aug 2021

"Don’t even consider staying anywhere else in Carlisle. 10/10. Amazing fresh breakfast with everything anyone could ever want! Beautiful clean room and nothing was too much trouble for the lovely proprietor Julie." Emma, Aug 2021

"Julie was lovely and accommodating. We loved the breakfast, including vegan pancakes, scones and fruit. It's a 5 minute walk from the train station and centre of town. Very clean and tastefully decorated. Loved the personal touches (disco duck!)." Emma, Aug 2021

"This was a great central location. The room was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. There was a lovely touch with homemade shortbread in the room. The breakfast was amazing. Freshly cooked to order with fresh cheese and bacon scones. Definitely one of the best breakfasts we've had. The parking was permit holders only but we asked in advance and Julie gave us a permit on arrival - we had no problem finding a parking space. It was a great stay and we would have no hesitation in returning." Claire, July 2021
